August Favourites

So we've almost reached the end of August, the X Factor has begun (meaning the unofficial countdown to Christmas has started) and the weather hasn't been the best recently. I've collected together a few of the products that have really pulled through this month and I've been enjoying using. Surprisingly, there is only one high-end product in this line up, drugstore products have been proving their worth.

Makeup Revolution Ultra Contour Palette
RRP £8

Oh my gosh! This affordable palette does the job so nicely! With three contouring shades, a yellow and pink pressed powder as well as three highlighters - you can't go wrong! I initially came across this palette out of desperation for a good contouring set and bought it as kind of a "make-do" thing but it quickly became my favourite. The colour goes on so nicely and is easy to blend, and lasts most of the day. I don't currently use the setting powders as I prefer to use loose powders so I can't pass comment on them. The silver/gold highlighter is stunning, its buildable so you can have a subtle highlight or keep building for that dazzling highlight. Again, I haven't really used the other two highlighters much as they don't show on my skin tone very well, so I can't give my opinion.
All in all, this palette is such good value for the quality it delivers. The only negative is with regards to the packaging; it breaks so easily!
Freedom Pro Brow Pomade - Soft Brown
RRP £5

For a few months I'd been using Eyelure's brow pencils but I wasn't entirely overwhelmed by them. I'd seen the ABH Pomades being raved about on YouTube and other blogs, but I couldn't justify buying one as I'd had no previous experiences with a pomade. Luckily, a new Freedom counter opened in my local drugstore a while back and I'd seen the pomades and picked out around 4 colours to try. Through laziness and neglect I kept leaving the lids of the pomades I was using during the day so they quickly dried out and the colours came of darker than they should and were pain to work with.

My friend was kind enough to pick me up another pot in the shade soft brown in an attempt to cease my constant winging about the dried up pot I was using, and I fell in love with the product again. With a good, angled and thin liner/brow brush (I use RT Bold Metals 202) the product just glides on and you have much more control than a pencil or powder. In addition, the lasting power is great, they don't budge easily and are great in the summer when swimming or unfortunately sweating.

I've used these and excuse to purchase to ABH pomade to expect a review and comparison soon! But for now, I highly recommend this to anyone looking to switch up their brow routine of try an inexpensive pomade.

NARS Scorching Sun Duo Eyeshadow
RRP £25

This was discontinued a while ago (I couldn't find when) but my local TK Maxx had a few of them in stock which I found bizarre. Most of them were opened but I struck gold and found a new one, although I did use the open ones to swatch and test the shadows. It comes with two colours, a matte and more vibrant orange and a deeper, glittery shade. I haven't found much use for the matte colour but I'm enjoying using the deeper colour on my lid with kahki greens on the outside. The shadows have such great pigmentation and the colour payoff on the lid is great. With minimal fallout, I've been reaching for these a lot recently.

I know they're discontinued, so it's hard for people to find, but if you can get down to TK Maxx or search online, I'm sure you can pick yourself up one.

L'Oréal Paris Telescopic Mascara
RRP £10.99

I'd actually lost this a while back and found it recently in a handbag when sorting through some things. I have so much love for this mascara! It doesn't clump easily and give so much length and volume its unreal. I prefer the original mascara, not too fond of the other variations. The wand is great and applies like a dream, although it takes a few coats to get to a good length. I use this mascara on days when I'm not wearing lashes such as work and 'cba' days. I really recommend that you try this mascara at least once, it's kind of in the middle price range so it's too much of a splurge.

Revlon Colourstay Foundation for Comination/Oily Skin
RRP £12.99

I fake tan quite often and the past couple of weeks I found myself running out of darker foundation to match my tanned skin tone. Lurking at the back of drawers was this guy, I hadn't used him in a while. With a good buffing brush, this applies so nicely and has a medium but buildable coverage. The shade range is great (I have 3 shades) and I like that they have ranges for dry, oily and combination skin types! If set well, it can last all day and look good 12 hours later. It's not a heavy duty foundation though, so sweating, rain and other wet things can drag this off.

The only negatives I have with regards to this product is that it can cake if you build it the right areas, its really not suitable for dry skin so you have to keep swapping foundations if your skin varies with the seasons. Lastly, there's no pump, the packaging is similar to that of MAC Studio Fix Fluid so you can waste a lot.

That's all for this months favourites, keep checking back for new posts. If you enjoyed this, agree or disagree with any of this, feel free to leave a comment!

Thank youu,

L xx
